Bottler: Douglas Laing
Distilleries: Ardbeg and Craigellachie.
ABV: 46%
Color: Pale straw
Nose: Light sea spray, lemon meringue pie with graham cracker crust, plastic jug, cypress branches, bike tires, petrichor. The peat notes are plasticy phenols that occasionally hint at smoke.
Palate: Bright and buttery. Campfire ash, candied lemon rinds, ginger candy, fresh cut pine, peaches, fresh cracked pepper. The finish begins with a blast of heat but then mellows into something delicate and peaty.
Overall: Interesting to see an independent bottler blending two casks and I hope more will try it. I think it works and if I had to guess I’d reckon the Craigellachie mellows the Ardbeg and brings some of the delicate fruit notes.
